About Us

Although the company was originally founded by husband and wife team Philip and Beverley Bunting back in 1996, look-after-yourself is an exciting new concept as an extension to an existing successful business in healthcare and the use of light therapy for the treatment of various medical conditions such as Seasonal Affective Disorder. Still very much a family business consisting of husband and wife team Philip and Beverley and a small number of very dedicated staff. The company has undergone tremendous growth is recent years due to its very personal and committed customer service. 

Philip is a community pharmacist with over 30 years experience in many different types of health problems.

Beverley is a qualified Beauty Therapist who spent many years living in Australia prior to moving to the UK in 1975.

 A natural progression has led to the development of non-drug light treatments for skin conditions such as acne and rosacea followed by Tens and TSE treatments chronic pain conditions.

With a new strategic team behind it, Look-After-Yourself.com has now added to its product range and offers help and advice and non-drug treatments for mens' and womens' health, cardiovascular, diabetic and respiratory conditions, water filters, sexual health products and allergy products. We even have our own range of health books, vitamins, minerals and food supplements.

 Meet the Staff!

Philip Bunting B.Pharm.M.R.Pharm.S who is one of the directors of the SAD Light Hire Company Limited is a community pharmacist by profession having obtained his degree at London University.

He has had experience in community pharmacy for over thirty years which included 20 years as a director and proprietor of one of the largest community pharmacies in the UK based in Southport, Merseyside.

For over ten years he was involved in the piloting of Cardiovasular and Diabetic Screening and risk assessment in community pharmacy.

He has been involved in the Sad Light Hire Company Limited since inception in 1996 and has been actively involved in research in the use of Light Therapy equipment for the treatment of Seasonal Affective Disorder and Circadian Rhythm Disorders.

"We have grown the business to where it is today by keeping focus on our core company belief that the customer comes first...being small and family run means that we can offer the customer service that sees your call being answered by one of our dedicated team even at 10pm on Sunday evening!" Philip lives in Southport and is married with three children. 

Donna Cumia BSc (Hons) MILT, joined the team in 2007 and is involved in all aspects of the company. A logistician by profession, she has a wealth of knowledge in the Logistics and Supply Chain Industry and holds a First Class Honours Degree in Transport. Amazingly, Donna still finds time to lecture in Transport at Liverpool John Moores University!

As well as ensuring that our Customer Service Levels remain at the forefront of our operation, Donna is keen to promote the benefits of Light Therapy for certain conditions including SAD. A keen researcher, she works closely with different professional fields to raise awareness of the use of light therapy and is constantly involved in the procurement of new therapies and treatments. 

Donna lives in Southport with her husband, two children and array of Jack Russell dogs! She mixes her time between Look After Yourself, her family and producing a string of young horses at her parents' farm - CLICK HERE for the national news coverage of Donna's horses enjoying regular sessions of light therapy whilst eating their hay!

Beverley Bunting, married to Philip, is a fully qualified beauty therapist, and a SAD sufferer! Having tried a lightbox and finding that it greatly alleviated the symptoms of seasonal affective disorder, the SAD Light Hire Co. was born in 1996 out of the desire that Philip and Beverley had to help other sufferers. "I was always poorly every winter as a child until I emigrated to Australia with my parents at the age of 11.

My father suffered badly too and felt we would benefit from leaving behind British weather. Living in such a warm and sunny climate made such a difference to our health and wellbeing." Beverley returned to the UK at the age of 21 in 1974, and so did the SAD symptoms! She married Philip in 1978 so never returned to Australia, and struggled through each winter for many years until she discovered light therapy in 1995. Their three daughters also suffer with SAD and use light therapy.

"I love speaking to people about SAD and advising them about light therapy to suit their lifestyle. They are relieved to find someone who knows and understands exactly how they feel, and discover that help is available. You cannot put a 'price' on your health."

Over the years, Beverley has spoken to many groups of people about SAD, taken part in radio and television interviews (the most recent being on BBC's The One Show), and together with Philip they exhibit and demonstrate their range of products at the Primary Care Exhibitions at the NEC Birmingham each year. She is based at the ' SAD SHOP' in Southport where she is supported by an excellent staff of close friends, and daughter Kerris in London.

Kerris Bunting is a senior Marketing coordinator of The Sad Light Hire Company and is daughter to Philip and Beverley Bunting. She has been working for the family business since 2005. She is based in the London office and coordinates all the marketing and product development for the company. Over the years she has seen the company grow from a small home based business to one which now supplies product to a truly international success. She is involved in researching the market place for the benefit of our customers.

She has recently been involved in helping with the development of Look-After-Yourself's sister website: www.sad-lighthire.co.uk creating a more intuitive and shopper-friendly environment for you. Kerris obtained a degree from the University of Central Lancashire in 2003 and has gained much of her diverse experience working for the design, Corporate Finance and ecommerce industries.

Kerris lives near central London, she enjoys busy weekends with friends and is involved in charity work.

Danny Rogan is currently studying an NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration Apprenticeship at Hugh Baird College in Liverpool. Danny is the newest team member. He has been working at the Sad-Shop since October 2009 and is thoroughly enjoying his job. He is involved in many aspects of the business. From supporting the staff , helping customers with choosing the right light therapy equipment to helping with the marketing of the business.

His hobbies include Football and other Sports.

The ‘Try Before you Buy' Company

Originally called North West Light Hire, Philip and Beverley bought a few light boxes from "FSL" (now "The Sad Lightbox Company") and "Lumie" based in Cambridge.

They decided that they would offer the equipment on a rental basis for Seasonal Affective Disorder sufferers who may have been unsure that light therapy would work, or were unable to purchase a light box outright.

For a small rental fee, clients can try the equipment for one month at a time to see if light therapy is beneficial for their winter depression before committing to a purchase. Look-After-Yourself's 'Try before you buy' service has been a huge success with its customers, with the majority actually going on to purchase their equipment. For rental customers who decide to buy their lightboxes outright, Look-After-Yourself allow a 50% refund of any rentals paid to be credited against a purchase!
